Sleeping Beauty

Ballet based on the fairytale by Charles Perrault with music by Peter I. Tschaikowsky.
Anyone who has every experienced live classical ballet will never again be satisfied with a recording. For friends of both ballet and fairytales the state theatre is continuing its programme of family-friendly ballet with a production of “Sleeping Beauty”. It is the most brilliant ballet from the classic Petersburg period. Tschaikowsky’s courtly setting for the fairytale is swathed in romantic music. At the christening of Princess Aurora the fairies heap good wishes on the baby. But the wicked fairy Carabosse angry at not being invited to the christening puts a curse on her. On her 16^th birthday the princess will prick her finger on a spindle and die. Furtunately the Lilac Fairy is able to change the spell so that the princess will just sleep for a hundred years rather than dying.
