The city centre is a lively meeting place and venue for a wealth of highlights throughout the year such as the festival of magic that takes place in the streets showcasing international stars or a range of musical events staged on the square in front of the cathedral with such renowned musicians as the world famous Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Other star-ranked ensembles provide top-class musical entertainment in favoured venues throughout the city such as the Rosengarten or the baroque Seehof Palace.

Numerous small theatres offer superb cabarets, readings, shadow theatre and puppet theatre whilst the E.T.A.-Hoffmann theatre is the venue for larger productions. The Calderón open air performances in the Alte Hofhaltung are a welcome annual highlight. 

Not to be missed in winter is the much praised Nativity Walk that provides vistors with a few reflective moments as they wend their way from one nativity scene to the next.

A visit to any of Bamberg’s 15 museums is like stepping into an Aladin’s cave full of treasures. Why not visit the unique Holography Museum, the Nature Museum, the exhibition of porcelain that belonged to King Ludwig or the Diocesan Museum.

One thousand years old yet still as lively as ever! Bamberg’s alleyways and squares are full of Franconian flair and an atmosphere reminiscent of the Mediterranean. 

There’s always some sort of festivity going on somewhere in Bamberg: in the evenings in the city’s bars and inns or at one of the numerous street festivals or country fairs. Yet there is always an oasis of tranquility to be found for a few quiet moments.
